The biggest opponent to the Republican Party right now is the Republican Party.

Because there are a lot of republicans out there who are really smart. Republicans who believe in smaller government and personal responsibility and deterring crime through enforcing existing laws. And even though I may not agree with them, I still respect their opinions and what they bring to the political atmosphere.

The problem is that we don’t hear from smart republicans; news outlets are saturated with the political beliefs of Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Michelle Bachmann, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Rick Santorum, etc. And frankly, I think they’re all bigots. When the Republican Party allows itself to be controlled by Tea Party interests and white guys who know absolutely nothing about being poor or discriminated against, it makes itself look stupid. Not Democrats, and not the media. The Republican Party is letting itself be represented by idiots. Meghan McCain and John Huntsman and a lot of other Republicans make a lot of sense on a lot of issues. 

But we’re not exposed to their opinions; we’re exposed to the Peanut Gallery.
